Special thanks to Hilary Walle-Jensen for amazing designs, Coach House Pictures and Joe Bankmann for the lovely photography throughout and Siana Maradol for helping me put the site together. An extra special thank you to my husband, Michael McCutcheon, for never ending support & loving dogs almost as equally as me.
I love dogs. I love your dog.
Seriously, I do.
You already know your dog. So here's a bit about the girl........
I have called Chicago home since 2002, and after a lots of walks in lots of neighborhoods, we settled into Bucktown, the perfect spot for my mostly fur-filled family: Morgan, a 14-year old black Lab and Seven, our 7-year-old, 3-legged Pittbull rescue dog (RIP-Kyper, a 10-year-old German Shepherd-he’s still apart of our family even though he is not here any longer) and husband, Mike.
As you can imagine, our house is loud, fun and dysfunctional.....and I would not change a single thing about it.....(except to maybe add another dog.)
In 2018, our family packed up and moved to Austin, Texas! We are loving the warm weather & big backyard. I am so grateful & honored that our awesome dog sitters wanted to continue to take care of our current Chicago clients & new clients!
A little bit about my beginnings, my story began working with elementary school-aged humans. Shortly after getting my master's degree in special education and becoming a Learning Behavior Specialist, I got involved in the Chicago dog rescue scene and I've never looked back. It opened my eyes- and heart- to a new world, one where I knew I could really make an impact. For me, dogs=happiness.
The real me.

Girl & the Dog was founded in 2015 simply because of my love for dogs (and yes, fabulous cats), with the ultimate goal being to provide full service pet care to my local community- Chicago still has my heart! But Austin, I’m loving you as well!
G&D takes pride of our small business belief, client forward focus, and customization to meet you and your dog's needs.
And yes, you read that right (on the homepage), for every 10 snoods sold, G&D will donate to a local dog rescue. It's all about giving back!
Thanks for coming to visit us. I'm always available for questions or conversation and very much looking forward to meeting you and your fur-child!

Dog Sitter & Dog Lover
Hi all!!! I currently reside in Rodgers Park, but I am originally from Boston, MA, born and raised. Since I was a little girl, my family always had dogs. Presently, living back home with my mom in Boston, are Simon: a golden retriever pup, Henry: a retired, stud who we adopted at 9 years old, and Maximus Decimus Meridius (yes, Russell Crowe’s character form the Gladiator movie): a feral kitten my mom and I rescued off the street.
Aside from my home life, I have extensive experience working with animals of all kinds. I studied for 3 years at the University of Massachusetts Amherst as an Animal Science/Pre-vet major before I transferred to the University of Massachusetts Boston to pursue a degree in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Stage Management. While going to school in Boston, I worked at Off the Leash Doggy Daycare in Attleboro, MA as both a dog supervisor and an assistant groomer. Since graduating with my B.A., I have moved away from stage management and have truly found my calling in project management.
I have an undeniable love for animals and have been missing my own terribly, it gets lonely not having a canine companion to go out with for walks and to snuggle with on the couch. Since moving to Chicago, I have become a volunteer with PAWS Chicago, and have met Stephanie. I look forward to joining the Girl and the Dog team and meeting all the wonderful dogs and owners we get to interact with!

Dog Sitting Queen
Hi! My name is Alex Munroe and I’ve lived in Bucktown for the past two years. I am a Speech Language Pathologist for a charter school in the city. I’m originally from Tucson, Arizona and try to visit as often as I can (especially in these Chicago winters!). I moved to Ohio in for my undergraduate degree in Speech Pathology and then to Chicago in to pursue my Graduate degree in Speech Pathology. I’ve lived in the city for close to 4 years now and have fallen in love. You can find me around the city trying new restaurants, sweating it out hot yoga, and watching any and all local sports games.
I grew up always having a dog in the house and started to miss my furry friends last year. I became a foster for One Tail at a Time. Fostering not only filled the void of having a dog, but also taught me so much about dog behavior. I’ve fostered all kinds of dogs from puppies to leash reactive to high energy to medically compromised and each one has left a special mark on my heart. I love the joy and love each animal brings to my home and love to see them grow, develop, and find a forever home! I’m so excited to join the Girl and the Dog team and share my love of animals with all of you!
Pittie Mama & In-Your-Home Dog Sitter
All my life I have been a Chicagoan and animal enthusiast. I grew up among a motley crew of beloved cats and became immersed in the world of canine when I worked for a dog walking company during college. I have an Associate degree in Mortuary Science and a Bachelors in Psychology. I remember each dogs name and personality fondly.
Ten years ago I inherited a four year old Pit bull/ Weimaraner mix named Romeo. His name was impeccably fitting as he would prove to be the unequivocal love of my life. Not only extraordinarily handsome he was so gentle and emotionally intuitive the assisted living home where I worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant requested his accompaniment for every shift I was scheduled.
Four years later I adopted a Pit bull/ Lab mix from the Humane Society I named Gertrude or “Gertie.” She is an incredible physical specimen and although very sweet to humans she initially expressed aggression toward other dogs, specifically those of a smaller breed. Over time, as I implemented avoidance techniques and redirection these interactions have ceased to be problematic. She loves being spoken to and is an Olympic caliber swimmer and ball retriever.
Additionally I have a ten year old black cat named Unfug which is German for “mischief.” Her personality is self-explanatory. I have never met a pet I did not like and assure you I will treat your fur baby as if they were my own. I am so excited to be apart of the Girl and the Dog and look forward to making new dog friends and meeting new clientele.
Each snood is thoughtfully HANDMADE with love. Snoods are either 100 % polyester or 100% acrylic, all machine washable on gentle cycle. Shipping is a $5 flat rate. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions on sizing or custom orders. We guarantee all our work & know your pup will love their new snood. A portion of proceeds will be given to Chicago's local animal rescues.
